Cowan Lake

Our fellow WCHS ’65 classmate Linda (Staten) Moore said she had some really good memories of Cowan Lake with her family and asked if I could take a few pictures around the lake for her.  So, Penny and I set out to drive completely around the lake and photograph the lake for her.  She told me that her Dad had taken them out in an inflatable boat one evening after dark in a small cove.  Apparently things went badly and the boat got  an air leak and pretty much sank.  Thankfully, he was in shallow water and managed to get them all safely ashore.

Linda, I hope we found the cove you remember!  So we will start at the Camp store and work our way around the lake.

All pictures were taken with an Apple iPhone 7.

Camp store probably looks exactly like it did in the 60’s.  It still has all of the warmth and charm of something that looks like it was designed by Darth Vader. 🙂

On the other side of the boat launching area is the Cowan Lake beach.
On the opposite side of the boat launch is the marina.

Back up the road we arrive at one of the camping areas. This is our C.O.W., Condo-On-Wheels.

We were there early in the season and were the only people checking in on Sunday.  We counted 10 other RV’s in the park, most of which didn’t seem to be occupied (yet).

Probably the best picture I took all day.

I hope you enjoyed the tour around the lake as much as we did.
